Rachel Bungey (b. 1992, London) is a British artist working across painting, drawing and sculpture. Her practice explores entanglement, interconnection and our relationship with the natural world, using biological structures, bodies and hybrid forms to consider ideas of gender, sexuality, memory and our connection to land.
Working with oil paint, graphite, marble, wood and cast metals, Bungey creates layered works in which distinctions between bodies, species and environments become fluid. She completed an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in 2023 and is based at Bomb Factory Art Foundation in London. Recent exhibitions include APT Gallery, Alice Black, Annely Juda and Studio West.
In their own words
“My practice considers how observing the natural world can challenge and expand, interpret and question our understanding of being human. I am using the natural world as a lens through which to explore ideas of gender, sexuality and relationship to land, questioning social structures and colonial ideas of separation from the natural world.”
